Painting of the Month: Haystacks At Sunset, Snow Effect, After Claude Monet’s 1890-1891
In my opinion, Claude Monet was the master of the winter scene. He painted more than 100 winter paintings, including a series of haystacks painted at his farmhouse in Giverny. The winter scene of haystacks at sun set with snow effect is one of my favourites from this series, there is such a warm glow from the sun as it sets on a cold, cold day. A pleasure to recreate, it highlights how important it is for an artist to truly observe nature and heightened my awareness of how dramatically the light can change with the seasons.
