Painting Of The Week - David Henty's recreation of Walter Sickert 'Dawn Camden Town'
"Eccentric - yes! Brilliant - yes! Jack the Ripper - who knows?"
Walter Sickert was Jack the Ripper - there have been a few books published pointing the finger at Sickert, the latest by Patricia Cornwell called 'Case Closed'. It is an interesting read.
From an art forgers perspective his paintings have an atmosphere that you could cut with a knife, a gloominess and the grime of Victorian London.
In order to recreate his paintings you have to peer through an old net curtain in to the daily grind of the lower classes, despite this he remains one of my favourite painters.
A British impressionist. Eccentric - yes! Brilliant - yes! Jack the Ripper - who knows?
